Lucian Academy is composed of several buildings and a series of fields and "parks" that are all contained within its several-hundred acre campus. All buildings and land are taking very good care of, thanks to the ever watchful eyes of the Head of Grounds and Maintenance, Geoffrey Vanderbilt. In fact, it is more than partially thanks to him that everything has stayed as clean and neat as it is, since he takes the time to make sure that everything is cleaned up and posts notices reminding the students not to litter or smoke in the undesignated areas. The buildings themselves are also kept in pristine condition; even the outside appears as though it has been constantly kept in good condition and hasn't been allowed to show the signs of time's passage that makes some buildings appear derelict before they really are. The grounds themselves are always neat and mowed, and in the areas where grass is allowed to grow higher for the sake of its animal inhabitants, it is always neat.
MORRISON ACADEMIC BUILDING. Possibly one of the oldest buildings on campus (other than the old Pennington stables which is really only used during Halloween and by mischievous students or daring couples), the Morrison Academic Building, or MAB, is home to the administration and all of Lucian Academy's classes and labs (including both science and computer labs). On the first floor, students will find all of the administration offices, as well as teachers' offices and subject-specific teachers' lounges. The first floor also contains an area in the center of the building that is simply called The Courtyard -- and while it is inside and only has a few benches and a small water fountain for students to throw pennies in for good luck before an exam, it is a popular meeting spot for students in between classes. The second floor is home to the English and history classes (in the right wing) and the foreign language classes (in the left wing), the third floor is comprised of science classes and labs in the right wing and math and computer labs in the left wing, and the fourth floor is home to all of the various elective classes. HOPKINS ATHLETIC BUILDING. Built in 1991 thanks to a large donation from Wayne Hopkins, a now retired hockey player and one-time Lucian Academy student. A multi-level basketball stadium, indoor ice hockey ring, and a swimming pool are only a few of the features the large athletic building holds within its walls. There is also a dance studio and several weight training rooms for all students to use (although there must always be a supervisor present when anyone, whether athlete or not, is using the weights). The HAB is located near the outside athletic fields, including the football stadium and the tennis courts. All of the basketball court, ice rink, swimming pool, football field (for running), and tennis courts are open for any student to use so long as practice isn't scheduled. Athletic team practice times are always posted on the bulletin board right inside the main entrance of the HAB. The HAB also has extended hours from the MAB, and stays open until 8 on weeknights and 9 on Friday and Saturday. JASMINE BOYD HALL AND MAXWELL SWIFT HALL. The girls and boys dormitory, respectively, both halls feature suite-style living, with six single occupancy rooms and two double occupancy rooms per suite, which gives each dormitory a maximum capacity of one hundred and fifty students. A more detailed description of the dormitories can be found here. MAUVE DINING COMPLEX. Named for Sophia Mauve, an architect and animal spirit bonded who designed the building that was later named after her. Other than the main kitchens and the big dining hall, the Mauve Dining Complex also has several small, formal and informal dining rooms that have been used for birthday parties in the past. Inside of the MDC, there is also a small grocery store called Raleigh's that students can go to to buy food and other convenience store items to stock their dorms with when it's too late to go into town or when they don't have any way to get there. PAIGE-SOLLISTE LIBRARY. A multi-level building that stays open until 8:00 pm on weeknights and Sunday and 5 on Saturday, the Paige-Solliste Library allows students to check out books for one month and videos for three days and audio cds for a week at a time. They also have an online book catalog that any student on campus can access through the internet with their student ID and a password; through it, students can search for a book they need, read online articles and books, and even request books that the library might not currently have. The library makes an effort to make sure that students have access to every book they need, and has a working relationship with the main library in Aldisville and Mount Pleasant and some of the other schools in the area to borrow and lend books as is needed. THE STABLES. Lucian Academy is home to a network of different stables. The primary one is where all of the hoofed spirit animals can call home (although they, unlike the non-spirit animals, aren't locked in because...well, mainly because of how much they would fuss about it being unfair), called Gail Stables. The second, which is used for horses belonging to the school and the students involved in the Horseback Riding Club, is known as Hayes Stable. And finally, the very first stable built on Lucian's grounds is still standing, although no animals save a few birds and maybe some mice call it home; the Pennington Stables are the breeding grounds for mischief, trouble, and romance among the more daring students. THE PARKS. Although they aren't actually parks, different sections of the campus' land are divided up into sections that are referred to as a park. They are usually vastly different environments that are home to the school's many different kinds of animals. For instance, the Madagascar Park which, thanks in large part to magic used by the humans who work at or who have attended Lucian, holds a climate and environment similar to that of a tropical rainforest which is, of course, home to more animals than just Madagascar-specific, considering some of the island's animals don't live in a rainforest. Most of the parks on the campus' land are named after countries, and some "parks" overlap each other. There are no specific boundaries from one to the next, but it is mainly important to note that the campus is home to many different types of animals and as such has many different types of environments. |
