Most of our rules are common sense and should be easy to follow. If, however, you have a problem or question about any of the rules, feel free to use the contact page above to get into contact with the owners.
- No god-modding. That means you can't say that someone else's character is doing something, something has happened to them, or put words in their mouth without the consent of the player. And if you're going to do that, it's a good thing to let the owners know as well, so that you don't get talked to about it.
- While we are on the subject of god, no god-characters. Your character should not be the most powerful being in the universe. Everyone has flaws, and really, it's the characters who aren't perfect that we find interesting, not the ones that are all strength and no weakness.
- We'd like to say no fighting and everyone make friends with each other and get along! But that might not happen, so we'll settle for saying we don't want any OOC drama flooding the group boards. If, by some chance, you do have a problem with someone, don't let it leak into your character play -- for instance, your character suddenly and without reason starts hating and torturing another character that belongs to a player you don’t like. We don't want that. And don't let what's happening IC leak into OOC -- in other words, if your character is fighting with soandso's character, it doesn't mean you have to fight with soandso. If you have a serious problem with someone then you should contact the owners and let them know rather than bringing it up in the rpg.
- Make sure to use proper grammar and spelling. You should spell-check everything before you post it and, if you know you have problems with grammar, it's highly recommended you read over it (reading it aloud really helps, too). And remember that all posts are to be written in third person, past tense format!
- As far as post length, we recommend everyone try to match the person they're writing with. Obviously, if they write five hundred billion paragraphs, you don't have to write that much if you can't, but try to keep it in approximately the same ballpark -- if you're having problems, though, try to think about what your character feels at the moment, the environment around her or him, what she or he may be thinking. Add in the little habits that your character might do without realizing -- is she constantly tucking her hair behind her ears and then pulling it back out from behind? Does he always reach behind to scratch his back? Those are interesting tidbits you can always add to a post to fatten it up!
- You can make joint posts (going back and forth over AIM or through email), just make sure to include BOTH (or all) characters' names in the subject line so we know it's from more than one person.
- If you want to get your character involved in a thread, look for any that might be open and un-replied to before starting a new one for yourself (unless you've already planned with another player to start a thread). And if you have a character who hasn't done anything for a while and you see an open thread, you should respond to it! If you want your open threads to be responded to, you should help start the trend by replying to someone else's.
- All players are required to post at least once a week (and yes, for every character), and unless you have left a OOC note describing why you aren't writing, the owners reserve the right to delete you and you character(s) from Lucian Academy at any time. Of course, this would probably only happen after at least two weeks of inactivity, but we're not going to sit around and wait for people to decide they feel like writing. If you don't feel like writing or you lose your muse for a character, make sure to let us know and put a character on hiatus or officially quit instead of disappearing. We're not going to wait for you to decide to tell us a month later.
- There is no character limit, but only take as many characters as you can handle. If you can't keep up with all of your characters, you might be asked to drop one. Know your limits. We get happy with making characters all the time, but we don't want characters that never get any interaction or attention. That would just be sad. A good idea is to start out with just one, wait a week, and if your muse is still interested, add him or her then. Since it's during the school year, we don't expect people to have as much time to keep up with Lucian, but once we get our claws in a character we want to see more from them and watch them develop and interact with other characters!
- Plot. It is a good thing. Right after you join make an effort to get your character involved with others. Not everyone is going to be social and make an effort to talk with everyone who joins, so it is up to you to get some good plots for your character. Unfortunately, they're not going to just appear. Don't be afraid to make suggestions or respond to someone's OOC plot plea; we would like to see everyone respond to every OOC character introduction, even if it's just to say hi and welcome the new character.
- NO STEALING. This includes words, characters, or pictures -- there is no three strikes and you're out for stealing. If you do it and we find out, you'll be banned from the rpg. It's a childish thing to do, anyway, and we suggest if you're having problems coming up with characters, writing posts, or making pictures you ask one of the owners. We're here to help you with that sort of thing!
- Lastly, but equally important is that we keep an even number of girls and boys. Some people only like to play girls, and some only boys, and that's perfectly understandable! We're not going to have limits on who can have how many girls and how many boys, but we ask that you be understanding of the state of the boy-girl ratio and if everyone is joining five billion girls, you can't expect there to be enough boys to go around, right? Right!
Please note that the owners of Lucian Academy reserve the right to change these rules at any time. If you have any problems with anything, make sure to take it up via IM or EMAIL with one of the owners by using the Contact Us link at the top of the page. Thanks!
